Urban Triage of Madison is hosting a homelessness awareness event on the Capitol Square on Dec. 2 to educate the public on the ongoing housing crisis.
“Seen & Unseen” will consist of four stops on the Capitol Square. Each stop will represent a part of the homelessness experience and the steps to becoming housed.
Displays will also be in place all day to offer information on the work needed to successfully house someone.
A guided walk and talk will take place at noon with Urban Triage CEO and founder Brandi Grayson.
“Our hope is that this campaign gives people a glimpse into the immense struggles of overcoming homelessness,” Grayson said in a statement. “And that it highlights the importance of supporting the programs in our community that help folks navigate an incredibly complicated system.
“Overcoming a situation like this is so much more than just providing a roof over someone’s head. They’ve endured real trauma along the way, and we need to be intentional about addressing all their needs — physical and mental.”
The event will run from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Site locations include South Pinckney Street (in front of Graze), West Mifflin Street (to the left of Cooper’s Tavern), North Carroll Street (in front of Grace Episcopal Church) and West Main Street (in front of Subway).
