Madison nonprofit Urban Triage, which distributes millions of federal dollars for Dane County housing programs, overspent by $100,000 on a homelessness program, the Wisconsin State Journal reports. The organization has had to make up the money itself; officials say, however, that no money was misspent, pointing to the county’s intense housing demand.

The nonprofit went over budget on a $317,000 county contract that has helped provide 181 households with “quick move-in funds.” These cover short-term housing barriers like prior debt, application fees, and the first month’s rent. Under the program, clients received an average of $1,751.

Urban Triage founder and CEO Brandi Grayson cited a new grant management software the company received in April behind the issue, saying it caused the organization to fall behind on tracking expenses and leading to higher expenditures.

Financial audits stipulated by the county have found the nonprofit made bookkeeping errors while administering a separate federally funded emergency rental assistance program, but the issues improved over time. An auditor last year concluded that Urban Triage fully complied with federal regulations.
