The Urban League of Greater Madison, in partnership with the League of Women Voters (LWV) of Dane County, will host a public issues forum, “Why Voting Matters: Consequences for Childcare Funding and Diversity in Education,” tonight from 5:30–7:30 p.m. at Urban League’s 222 S. Park St. location. The event seeks to shed light on matters affecting Wisconsin families while promoting civic engagement.

Panelists include Dr. Laura Dresser, associate director of the Center on Wisconsin Strategy and clinical associate professor for the UW–Madison School of Social Work, and Dr. Gloria Ladson-Billings, professor emerita for the UW–Madison School of Education. Joy Cardin, retired Wisconsin Public Radio talk show host, a member of the LWV of Dane County, and a member of the board of directors of the LWV of Wisconsin, will moderate.

The forum will explore:

  • Child care funding, discussing the implications of the expiration of the federal Child Care Stabilization Program in September 2023 and proposals to address the loss of these vital funds; and
  • Diversity in education, addressing attempts to censor diversity in teaching and libraries, including the campaign against critical race theory.

There will also be virtual access to the forum via Zoom at this registration link. Additional information is available here.
