Urban Forestry’s spring planting season began Monday, April 8, according to the city of Madison. Crews will be planting 1,682 trees from 27 different species along city streets this spring.

The variety of species was selected by the city’s trained arborists to ensure a diverse and resilient canopy that can thrive in an urban landscape. The spring planting will occur throughout the city, including on the isthmus. It is expected to continue through the end of the month.

Upon the conclusion of the spring planting season, Urban Forestry crews will return to pruning and other tree care operations. In the fall, there will be a second round of planting.

Editor’s note: an earlier version of this story has corrected the number of trees to be planted this spring.
