To handle the holiday demand spike, United Parcel Service plans to hire 74 seasonal workers in central Wisconsin, according to the Wausau Daily Herald.
As part of a plan to add 55,000 seasonal jobs nationwide, the Atlanta-based UPS, the world’s largest delivery company, said it would hire 40 temporary workers in Wausau and 34 in Stevens Point to work from Thanksgiving to Christmas.
Of the 74 positions, 61 are for driver-helper jobs, which involves rising with a UPS driver and helping deliver packages, and the remainder are for package handlers. The hourly rate for the driver-helper jobs is nearly $13 an hour, while the wage for package handlers ranges from $8.50 to $9.50 an hour.
The total of 55,000 seasonal jobs is up from 50,000 a year ago, and UPS anticipates a peak volume of 26 million packages on Dec. 22.
Following the holidays, UPS said seasonal workers are placed in a pool and considered for other employment opportunities.
