UnityPoint Health–Meriter and the Black Men Coalition of Dane County (BMCDC) announced an employment partnership to expand career opportunities for underrepresented individuals in the health care industry.
BMCDC provides mentorship, education, hiring, and more, and the organization works closely with Meriter to provide career placement and workforce development services. This initiative aims to equip participants with the necessary skills and support to succeed in health care careers. To date, seven Meriter team members have been hired through the program, with the goal of expanding to 40 over the next few years.
Through this partnership, BMCDC will arrange career placement services at Meriter including resume building, application assistance, and interview preparation. Additionally, BMCDC will collaborate with Meriter Foundation to develop programs that facilitate a smooth transition into the health care workplace. These programs will cover topics such as health care culture, workforce practices, and professional development skills. BMCDC also partners with Meriter Human Resources to develop tools to help employees retain employment after onboarding.
All roles across Meriter are available to BMCDC applications, and all BMCDC team members will be eligible for Meriter’s Pathways Programs, which offer free training and education in phlebotomy, nursing assistant, and surgical technologist positions.
