UnityPoint Health–Meriter Hospital announced around noon today that it had commenced a “precautionary lockdown,” according to the Wisconsin State Journal. Meriter spokesperson Nicole Aimone said the hospital is “working with authorities regarding an external threat by an outside caller.”

Confirmed patients are being screened for admission for appointments and procedures while the building remains locked down externally. Meriter’s security team and Madison police are stationed on the perimeter of the Meriter campus.

Madison police spokesperson Korrie Rondorf said police are “working with a number of law enforcement partners” to investigate “a threat incident at Meriter Hospital.”
