Thousands of patient medical records may have been compromised in a security breach at UnityPoint Health, which operates in Illinois, Iowa, and as UnityPoint Health-Meriter in Madison. The security breach, between Nov. 1, 2017 and Feb. 7, 2018, is the result of a phishing attack, which could have resulted in social security numbers, dates of birth, medical records, lab results, and other details being released, according to a channel3000.com report.
In 2016, Meriter hospital in Madison transitioned its name to UnityPoint Health – Meriter and Meriter Home Health officially integrated into UnityPoint at Home.
In March 2016, UnityPoint Health’s Waterloo, Iowa hospital discovered that a security breach had occurred over the previous seven years.
