About 1,000 workers in Three Rivers are on strike, CNBC reported.
Dauch Corp. — formerly known as American Axle and Manufacturing —makes axle and component parts for General Motors pickup trucks. Workers who are a part of the United Auto Workers union went on strike Monday when a new contract could not be completed between the union and Three Rivers.
The union is seeking wages lost during the Great Recession.
“We’ll stay out on strike until this company comes to its senses,” UAW President Shawn Fain said during a Sunday video announcement. “The full force of the UAW international union will be standing with these workers. So, American Axle, time is up. No contract, no axles.”
According to the union, wages fell from $29 per hour to $14.50 in 2008. And wages now top out at $22 per hour after five years.
