Thanks to the increase in fuel prices sparked by the ongoing U.S.-Iran war, airlines are raising its prices for checked baggage, CNBC reported.
United Airlines will charge a fee of $45 for a checked bag if prepaid, with that price at $50 if purchased within one day of the flight.
It follows a similar move JetBlue recently made where it raised the price of a checked bag by up to $9. The price is dependent on when travelers purchase it.
Airlines have experienced an increase in jet fuel costs of over 80% since the war began, with prices increasing from about $2.50 per gallon to $4.56.
