A preliminary report from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics and the Department of Workforce Development show unemployment rates in June decreasing in all 12 Wisconsin metropolitan statistical areas compared to 2015, with the largest decline (0.8%) in Janesville-Beloit.
The Madison metropolitan area’s unemployment rate was at 3.4%, while Racine posted a 5.5% rate. Among municipalities, the unemployment rate was 3.2% in Fitchburg and Sun Prairie, and 6.9% in Racine.
Dane County has an employment rate of 3.3% (up from 2.9% in May but down from 3.5% in June 2015) compared to Lafayette County’s 9.1%. The figures were not seasonally adjusted.
According to a DWD release, Wisconsin is one of only 10 states with an annual average unemployment rate in 2015 lower than 2007, when the Great Recession began.
