The Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development reported that Wisconsin’s unemployment rate fell from 12.1% in May to 8.5% in June.
In response to the backlog of unemployment claims, Wisconsin Democrats have proposed a package of eight bills to expand eligibility for benefits and roll back changes made to unemployment laws during Gov. Scott Walker’s time in office, according to a Wisconsin State Journal report. The package of bills would also allow Social Security disability recipients to receive unemployment benefits, provide extended occupational training programs, and temporarily suspend the $500 wage threshold for eligibility.
Democrats say the bills allow those who need help to get it faster. GOP leaders criticized the bills saying they are an attempt to divert attention away from Governor Evers’ record of not processing claims correctly.
