Unemployment aid grows slightly

The Associated Press reported that jobless aid applications have risen by 5,000 to 210,000. 

The Labor Department reported that last week’s numbers were 205,000.  

Unemployment numbers are used to determine the health of the job market, which has been weak recently, with the Labor Department reporting that U.S. employers cut 92,000 jobs in February.  

Some major job cuts have come recently from UPS and Amazon. The online retailer announced that about 14,000 employees were laid off before last year’s holiday season.
