A Civil War-era building in downtown Madison that was threatened with destruction will be moved and perhaps live to see another century. Urban Land Interests (ULI) has agreed to relocate the two-story commercial building, at 502 W. Main St., to a parcel it owns at 151 Proudfit St.

Keller Real Estate Group owns the historic building but wants to develop the lot into a $2.5 million, four-story mixed-use apartment complex. Urban Land Interests, which plans to move the structure at the end of August, will eventually renovate the interior and rent it out as a two-bedroom home.

Developer Bob Keller agreed to donate the building and contribute $30,000 toward its relocation, while ULI agreed to pick up the rest of the costs, estimated to be about $60,000.
