The annual ranking of the nation’s top universities is out, and UW–Madison came in at No. 46 (down from 44 in 2017). Marquette was ranked No. 90 (down from 86 in 2017) in the 2018 Best College rankings from U.S. News & World Report. The ranking is a measure of student outcomes such as graduation, freshman retention rates and academic achievements, class size, and alumni.
According to the report, UW has an undergraduate enrollment of 31,710 and in-state tuition and fees are $10,533, while out-of-state tuition and fees are $34,782. Marquette, a private college, has an undergraduate enrollment of 8,238 and tuition and fees are $39,900 (2017–18).
Among the leading institutions: Princeton was No .1 (5,400 undergrads/$47,140 tuition and fees); Harvard, No. 2 (6,710/$48,949); and the University of Chicago (5,941/$54,825) tied with Yale (5,472/$51,400) for the No. 3 spot.
