The U.S. gross domestic product grew at a 4.2% annual rate in the second quarter, the fastest growth since the third quarter of 2013 and a seismic change compared to the first quarter’s contraction of 2.1%. Strong consumer spending, business investment, state and local spending, the housing market, and exports were cited as reasons for the jump.
