Applications for unemployment dropped by 1,000 to 209,000 in the week ending Jan. 24, the Associated Press reports.
Unemployment applications are usually tied to U.S. layoffs and indicate how healthy the job market is.
In early January, the government reported slow hiring in December on top of a year of weak employment gains, although unemployment remains low.
Employers also added about 50,000 jobs last month.
