Camp Randall Stadium will have a heated field next year, according to Channel3000. On Monday, crews began removing existing turf on Barry Alvarez Field, which was replaced just last year.

The move follows the Big Ten Conference’s announcement earlier this year that 2024 will be the first season with 18 teams, no divisional format, and 12 conference matchups. The heated field is aimed at mitigating the effects of Wisconsin winters on playing conditions. Snow removal from the field costs roughly $100,000 currently — another factor in the decision.

The heating system will cost around $5 million to install. New turf will be laid on top and remain consistent with the past field design. Crews will cover the field for graduation, as usual, and it will be completed by the 2024 football season.
