The University of Wisconsin–Madison is extending its program to pay tuition and fees for teachers who choose to start their careers in Wisconsin, according to a report from Wisconsin Public Radio. The university’s Teacher Pledge program covers tuition, fees, testing, and licensing costs for teachers who stay in the state. The stipulations are that the teacher needs to spend three years teaching at a high-needs school or in a high-need subject area in Wisconsin, or they need to spend four years in a school or subject area that doesn’t meet those criteria. The program was initially intended to run for five years but will now be extended to run through the 2025-26 school year. The university raised $20 million between 2018 and 2020 to fund the costs of the program for 1,000 students.
