With local food pantries still reeling from the loss of and then delayed payments of SNAP benefits, TruStage, a financial services provider and insurance company, announced Wednesday it will release $80,000 in emergency funds to six Dane County food pantries.
“TruStage was founded upon the principle of people helping people, and it remains at the heart of who we are,” TruStage President and CEO Terrance Williams said in a statement. “When families in our own community are struggling to put food on the table, we step up.”
The Badger Prairie Needs Network, Goodman Community Center, River Food Pantry, St. Vincent de Paul – Madison, Sunshine Place and WayForward Resources will receive a total of $60,000. The remaining $20,000 will go to three food pantries in and around Waverly, Iowa.
Dane County and Waverly are the geographic areas with the largest concentration of TruStage employees.
In 2024, SNAP, known as Food Share in Wisconsin, provided benefits to nearly 65,000 people in Dane County.
“Too many Dane County residents are working long hours but still come up short at the end of the month,” Marcia Kasieta, Badger Prairie Needs Network business director, said in a statement.
“With food prices rising, it’s also more expensive for pantries to keep shelves stocked. TruStage’s support will help us maintain reliable access to healthy food for our neighbors during this challenging time.”
