President Donald Trump announced plans to impose a 100% tax on movies made outside of the U.S., according to the Associated Press.
Trump posted the news on his Truth Social platform, asserting that movie production “has been stolen” from Hollywood, despite the United States’ domination of the business.
It remains unclear how these tariffs would operate as movies and TV shows can be transmitted digitally without going through ports, and it is unclear what the taxes would mean for U.S. movies filmed on foreign locations.
Trump has yet to specify when the tariff would go into effect.
