President Donald Trump signed a $2.2 trillion economic rescue package into law Friday, following passage by the House of Representatives and the Senate.

The measure is designed to prop up the American economy while the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic runs its course.

Within a few weeks, direct payments of up to $1,200 will be shipped to millions of Americans, according to a report by the Associated Press. In addition, unemployment benefits will be dramatically increased, loans and grants will be offered to businesses large and small, and money will be pumped into the nation’s overwhelmed health care system.
