To aid the city of Kenosha as it braces for more nights of protests, President Donald Trump stated that Gov. Tony Evers has agreed to accept federal policing assistance, according to a report from the Wisconsin State Journal. Evers has doubled the number of National Guard members in Kenosha bringing the total to 500. In the third night of unrest, two people died and one person was wounded when gunfire hit the crowd of protesters. A 17-year old Illinois man is in custody in connection with the shooting.

Two GOP Wisconsin lawmakers, U.S. Rep. Bryan Steil and U.S. Sen. Ron Johnson, criticized Evers, calling his acceptance of federal troops a delayed reaction. They stated the focus going forward “should be on healing — for Jacob Blake, for the lives turned upside down in the rioting, and for the community of Kenosha.”
