The Trump administration on Friday announced that it is imposing a $100,000 fee on H-1B visas, according to the Associated Press.

The visas are a type of nonimmigrant visa meant to allow American companies to bring in people with technical skills difficult to find in the United States. They are not intended for people who wish to stay permanently.

The White House said the fee does not apply to existing visa holders, and that H-1B employees traveling abroad will be able to re-enter the U.S. without paying the $100,000.

The new policy took effect Sunday.
