Gov. Tony Evers’ administration sent a letter to President Donald Trump’s administration after reports of the possible termination of over 600 U.S. Department of Energy funding awards.
Wisconsin businesses, organizations and projects with energy-related objectives were previously awarded over $1.5 billion in approved funding.
Eliminating the awards during a time of record-high energy demand and rising costs would be “counterintuitive, reckless and ill-advised,” Evers said in a statement.
If clean energy investments are rolled back, energy costs per household could increase by $170 annually over the next decade, according to Energy Innovation, a non-partisan energy and climate policy think tank. Wisconsin households could face a $300 increase in the same period.
