Toyota announced Tuesday that it will invest $912 million in U.S. manufacturing plants producing hybrid vehicles, while also adding 252 new jobs across five manufacturing plants in the southern U.S.
The goal is to increase hybrid capacity and produce hybrid-electric Corollas in the U.S.
The money will go to plants in West Virginia, Kentucky, Mississippi, Tennessee and Missouri. The largest portion, $453 million, will go to Toyota West Virginia to increase assembly of 4-cylinder hybrid-compatible engines and more.
The first hybrid-electric Corollas made in the U.S. will be produced at Toyota Mississippi after a $125-million investment.
Toyota had recently announced an investment of up to $10 billion in the U.S. over the next five years.
