Tourism Secretary Anne Sayers at a legislative hearing last week called for additional funding to attract visitors to Wisconsin, WisBusiness reports. The move aligns with Gov. Tony Evers’ proposed budget, which would increase funds for staff and marketing.
Wisconsin ranked No. 27 nationally for direct visitor spending in 2019 and hit No. 23 by 2023. Sayers said the goal is for the state to reach the U.S. top 20 in the coming years and warned that any cuts to the department would directly impact marketing.
Currently, the office lacks an office of film and creative industries. The governor’s proposal would create the office with three new staff positions and $10 million of annual tax credits at the Department of Revenue.
