Madison Mayor Satya Rhodes-Conway and a handful of political leaders and community organizations are calling for state regulators and utilities to halt disconnections for tens of thousands of Wisconsin residents that are scheduled for Friday, according to a Wisconsin State Journal report.

Economic hardship from the COVID-19 pandemic has caused more than 69,000 residents and over 7,000 businesses to meet the threshold for disconnection. The Public Service Commission lifted a moratorium on disconnections last month that was put in place by Gov. Tony Evers in March.
