University of Wisconsin System Interim President Tommy Thompson is expected to request a 3.5% increase to the System’s operating budget for 2021–23, according to a Wisconsin State Journal report.

The increase represents a $94.7 million increase in spending. Along with the increase, Thompson is proposing the Wisconsin Tuition Promise, an expansion of the UW–Madison’s Bucky Tuition Promise across the System that would guarantee tuition and fees for Wisconsin residents whose household adjusted incomes are $60,000 or less.
