University of Wisconsin System Interim President Tommy Thompson announced a series of decisions that reflect the immediate priorities of cost reduction affecting the UW System administration, according to a release. Along with $1.3 million in savings from UW System administration furloughs, the cuts should save more than $10 million through fiscal year 2022. They include:

  • A 10% reduction within the UW System administration’s state-supported salary line totaling $6 million;
  • Limiting out-of-state travel through June 30, 2021, and reducing supplies and equipment, with estimated savings of $2.4 million;
  • Eliminating several memberships, sponsorships, and subscriptions; and
  • Using virtual UW System administration meetings to achieve additional savings.
