The area’s first online giving day, The Big Share, far surpassed expectations, raising more than $232,000 for 70 local nonprofits. The original goal for the March 3 event, hosted by Community Shares of Wisconsin, was to raise $180,000.
“We are thrilled to see this response from the community — and from donors as far away as New York City, California, even Ghana!” said Community Shares Executive Director Crystel Anders, in a release.
The success of the event means it could become an annual fundraiser.
In addition to the $232,000 raised, the event also received a $55,000 grant from the Madison Community Foundation, The Big Share’s partnering sponsor; $10,000 from the Kailo Fund; and $15,000 from the Evjue Foundation.
