The Textile Arts Center of Madison opened its doors at 2436 Pennsylvania Ave. on Sunday, according to The Capital Times. The new hub for teaching, learning, and supplies was founded by two local textile artists and is designed to provide a shared space for area makers.
The nonprofit center is housed in a warehouse behind the former Oscar Mayer plant. It will host workshops and exhibitions and will resell donated art supplies.
On Sunday, an open house marked the launch and featured a weaving demonstration and inaugural exhibit with pieces by local textile artists.
The center will open its doors again this Friday for Madison Museum of Contemporary Art’s Fall Gallery Night. Arts venues citywide will host guests from 5–9 p.m.
Moving forward, the center will be open during classes listed on its website. The founders anticipate offering several classes per month next year in addition to sales, exhibitions, and community events. Eventually, they hope to offer memberships to a shared studio and expand programming beyond the warehouse.
