Fans of the American Birkebeiner cross-country ski race in Cable, Wis., may have seen the last of the Telemark Lodge. While the new owners had hoped to save the famed but troubled lodge, a report in The Cap Times says repairing the lodge is simply cost prohibitive, and it could be leveled. Renovation costs were expected to run between $2 million and $4 million. Local tourism officials are trying to remain optimistic, but with the lodge’s heat and water now turned off, Telemark’s future appears dim.
