The board of directors of the Wisconsin Technology Council voted unanimously to endorse the science behind public orders that urge the wearing of masks to slow the spread of COVID-19, according to a statement from the organization. The board’s resolution hopes to speed the return to normal for the broader economy, schools, and other institutions.

The resolution noted that it is not the role of the council to comment on the legality of statutes, but it does have a legitimate role in evaluating “the science behind existing and proposed state policies, and to provide its recommendations to the executive and legislative branches on such.”

The council stated there is strong scientific evidence that simple masks help to filter most viral particles and have been shown to broadly reduce serious illness and death. The council believes the widespread adoption of mask-wearing could help avoid further safer-at-home orders and help the economy.
