A $700 million natural gas pipeline enhancement project by Canada-based TC Energy is complete.
Wisconsin Public Radio reports it will improve reliability and meet rising demand from Wisconsin and northern Illinois.
The company also upgraded natural gas compression facilities in Kewaskum and Weyauwega, and meter stations in Lena, Merrill, Oshkosh, South Wausau, Stevens Point and Two Rivers.
Construction of the “Wisconsin Reliability Project” pipeline began last year and was operational on Nov. 1. TC Energy said the project will meet a projected 45% increase in natural gas demand in Wisconsin over the next 10 years. Around 51 miles of aging pipeline across Wisconsin and northern Illinois were updated.
The project generated about $1.1 billion in economic output and contributed $68 million in state and local tax revenue, according to TC Energy.
