The Governor’s Task Force on Student Debt has released its final report outlining recommendations for how the state can provide relief, education, and protection to student debt holders, according to a release from the Wisconsin Department of Financial Institutions.
Recommendations from the task force include creating a Borrower Bill of Rights and student loan ombudsman, enhancing proprietary school regulations, improving financial literacy education, and increasing need-based, targeted aid. The Task Force also recommends strengthening student loan counseling, the consideration of targeted loan forgiveness programs, and the creation of a state student debt relief tax credit.
