Wisconsin farmers are facing mounting pressure from President Donald Trump’s tariffs on exports.
Tariffs have affected farm machinery, fertilizer and more to the tune of millions, according to Farmers for Free Trade, which held a listening session to discuss the agricultural trade issues on Wednesday.
In the first seven months of 2025, tariffs have added an extra $11 million paid for farm machinery and equipment, $5.2 million more in fertilizer and chemical inputs costs, $146 million in extra costs for vehicles and transportation and $307 million for steel and building materials.
According to data shared by the group, soybean exports are down. Farmers make 20% of their earnings in export markets.
With tariffs affecting the farming industry, the organization is working toward policy solutions.
