Good news, bad news: Target is increasing store staffing, yet eliminating nearly 500 jobs at distribution centers and regional offices.

The move is one that aims to clean up stores, provide more items in stock and alleviate long checkout lines.

CNBC reported that the retailer is making these changes in an attempt to improve customer experience and is a top goal for new CEO Michael Fiddelke.

About 100 of the layoffs will include ones at the store district level, and about 400 will be across the supply chains.
