Taco Local, the Latin American eatery at 811 Williamson St., has permanently closed its doors, Madison Magazine reported. Owner and executive chef David Rodriguez said the restaurant “ran out of money” and could not continue into 2025, despite efforts to stay afloat.
Rodriguez, who launched the brick-and-mortar spot in 2021 after operating a food truck and pop-up business, cited the ongoing challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic and rising costs as key factors. “It has been a very difficult last few years for food service businesses,” he said, adding that he’s feeling “seriously burned out.”
The closure surprised some customers who placed online orders only to find the restaurant closed. Rodriguez is working to shut down the ordering platform and issue refunds by next week.
Taco Local was known for its scratch-made tacos and pico de gallo. Rodriguez expressed gratitude to customers, his team, and the community: “Saying goodbye is sad and hard for all of us. Thank you to Willy [Street] and Madison.”
