Madison’s City Council failed to override Mayor Paul Soglin’s veto of a liquor license for a Taco Bell Cantina on State Street.

Fifteen votes were needed but only nine votes were cast in favor of the override. However, with four council members absent, the issue could be voted on again if, for example, one of the missing members asks the council to reconsider the matter at its Jan. 16 meeting.

If that happens, the council would need at least 11 members to agree to reopen the discussion before voting again.
