Sustain Dane expands Food Scrap Drop-Off program

Sustain Dane is expanding its free Food Scrap Drop-Off program to the Westside Community Farmers’ Market. Community members can bring food scraps to Sustain Dane’s market booth at University Research Park, 505 S. Rosa Road, on Saturdays from July 20–Oct. 5 from 7 a.m.–12:30 p.m. 

To date, this free public program has composted over 37,000 pounds of food scraps. 

Accepted materials for drop-off include:

  • Raw fruits and vegetables;

  • Coffee grounds;

  • Loose tea;

  • Plain pasta and rice;

  • Eggshells; and

    Advertisement
  • Gourds.

Materials that will not be accepted include:

  • Meat;

  • Dairy;

    Advertisement
  • Cooked foods;

  • Bread;

  • Produce stickers and twist ties;

  • “Compostable” bags and utensils; and

  • Paper products.

Other market sites include: 

  • The South Madison Market on Tuesdays from 2–6 p.m. at Madison Labor Temple, 1602 S. Park St., now–Oct. 29; and

  • The East Madison Market on Tuesdays from 4–7 p.m. at McPike Park, 202 S. Ingersoll St., now–Oct. 29.
