According to WKOW, records revealed that a suspect in an arson fire at a Dane County fireworks store was out on bail for other crimes at the time of the incident.
Jonatan Escobar Grajales, 38, was booked into the jail July 11 on tentative charges including arson to a building and seven counts of endangering safety after sheriff’s personnel responded to the Thundercat Fireworks store at 2771 County Hwy. N on July 4. He was released July 17 at the direction of Dane County’s district attorney without having to post bail in connection with the tentative charges.
At the time of the crimes, Escobar Grajales was released on $5,000 bail in a 2022 felony case that charged him with armed robbery, car theft, and obstructing and resisting an officer. Escobar Grajales allegedly pointed what appeared to be a gun at a driver on Moorland Road in August of that year and stole the driver’s SUV. Monona police officers located Escobar Grajales, who ran from an officer and was subdued by others after use of a taser failed to stop him.
