Wisconsin ranks 47 out of 50 states and the District of Columbia for states with the most affected small businesses due to COVID-19, according to a recent WalletHub survey. The survey compared 12 key metrics including access to resources, small business financial conditions, and workforce support. Across the county, 87 percent of small business owners say their business is hurting from the coronavirus, and 35 percent say that their business cannot last more than three months in current conditions.
In a related WalletHub survey on COVID-19’s impact on state tourism, Wisconsin ranked No. 46. The survey compared the 50 states and the District of Columbia across 10 key metrics including share of businesses in the travel and tourism-related industries and spending per travel employee.
A third WalletHub survey ranked Wisconsin No. 49 out of 50 states and the District of Columbia for states with the biggest increases in unemployment due to COVID-19 based on increases in unemployment claims. Despite the U.S. losing more than 22 million jobs since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, the impact on jobs in the Badger State has been relatively mild compared to the rest of the nation.
