A survey from WalletHub looking at 180 cities based on three metrics and comparing unemployment data, found that Milwaukee was ranked 71st and Madison was ranked 116th nationally in terms of jobless severity.
The survey looked at the change in each city’s unemployment rate during April 2020 and compared it to data from April 2019 and January 2020. The survey also considered each city’s overall unemployment rate.
Milwaukee reported an unemployment rate of 16.80% in April, which was an increase of 324.76% over that same period in 2019. Madison’s unemployment rate in April was 11.10%, representing a 292.44% change from the same period in the previous year.
