Although the COVID-19 pandemic has brought economic hardship, mass layoffs, and high unemployment, the percentage of employees reporting overall satisfaction with their jobs remained high in 2020, according to a report from nonprofit The Conference Board. Job satisfaction grew slightly from 56.3% in 2019 to 56.9% in 2020. However, job satisfaction varied by age group with those under 35 experiencing a drop in satisfaction, while those 55-plus experienced an increase. Engagement in work was also reported to be higher with 54.3% of workers reporting engagement in their work compared to 53.2% in 2019. The Conference Board Job Satisfaction Survey asked over 1,000 U.S. workers about the extent to which they are satisfied or content with their overall job and its components, such as the work environment and benefits.
