Supreme Court strikes down President’s global tariffs

 The U.S. Supreme Court struck down tariffs imposed by President Donald Trump under an emergency powers law, 6-3, the Associated Press reported.  

 

The decision came on Friday, focusing on the president’s reciprocal tariffs he put in place in April 2025 

Justices Samuel Alito, Clarence Thomas and Brett Kavanaugh dissented.

Polling has found tariffs aren’t broadly popular with the public. 

The economic effect of Trump’s tariffs has been estimated at about $3 trillion over the next decade, according to the Congressional Budget Office.
