The Supreme Court on Tuesday cleared the path for President Donald Trump’s plans to downsize the federal workforce, according to the Associated Press. The decision comes despite warnings that the move will result in the loss of critical government services and job loss for hundreds of thousands of federal employees.

Several lower court orders had temporarily frozen the cuts, which had been led by the Department of Government Efficiency, but the Supreme Court overrode these orders.

In an unsigned order, the court said that no specific cuts were in front of the justices, only an executive order issued by Trump and an administration directive for agencies to undertake job reductions.
