Sun Prairie will hold town halls in February and March on its proposed $3.95 million referendum that will be on the ballot April 7, the Wisconsin State Journal reports.

The referendum is to help to fund city services. It was voted on in December to be placed on the ballot.

The referendum will decide if the city permanently increases the amount of property taxes it collects in 2027, from $39,792,820 to $43,742,820. It would also raise the baseline tax amount the city would collect in property taxes for future years.

A home valued at about $381,500 would see taxes increase by between $82 and $264 per year. Sun Prairie communications manager Ashley Manthei said the exact amount residents pay would depend on how much of the allowed increase the council decides to use in the first year after the referendum’s approval.
