A Sun Prairie retail district project was rejected after city officials voted unanimously to not pursue the project, the Wisconsin State Journal reported.

The proposed retail district, named Derby District, would turn a business park and farmland into a 133-acre site with space for 36 businesses and 15 apartment buildings, and include two hotels and two senior living buildings. The space is by Highway 19, Highway C and Saint Albert the Great Drive.

Developer Terrence Wall said he would adjust his plans and bring the plan forward again at a future date.

Some residents near the site opposed the development, with about 70 people attending a plan commission meeting on Tuesday to make their opposition heard.
