Sun Prairie Police Chief Michael Steffes announced on Tuesday that he will retire from the police department in January, WMTV15 reports. Steffes has served the department since December 2019.
Steffes helped implement the National Incident-Based Reporting System, which enhanced the quality of crime data collection, and hired a coordinated response specialist as part of an advocacy effort for mental health.
Steffes worked for several other Wisconsin departments prior to his employment in Sun Prairie, including as a deputy administrator with the Wisconsin Department of Justice’s Division of Law Enforcement Service and as police chief in the city of Rhinelander.
